Wandumzi’s Belgian Experience...so far!
The Belgium Campus internship programme is unique amongst local universities, but the fact that we give our students the opportunity to complete their internship with a company overseas, is something truly special!
One student who has taken this opportunity is Wandumzi Ntlanyana who left for Belgium on the 16th of February 2014. For the duration of his internship, Wandumzi will be working in the IT department of BBTk-SETCa, a Belgian workers’ union.
Since arriving in Brussels, Wandumzi has got stuck into his work in the union’s IT department, ensuring the smooth implementation and removal of devices on the network. This sees him deploying new devices on the network, removing older devices or users while ensuring all sensitive information is wiped off all old hardware, maintaining existing devices and creating back-ups. Throughout these upgrades and new implementations, security plays a big role and Wandumzi also keeps a close eye on that while carrying out his duties.
Experiences like an overseas internship are not only about working; it’s also about growing as a person. This is exactly what Wandumzi has been doing, admitting that he is a rather timid person who, is “trying to open up in that regard”. But it seems “trying to open up” is not holding Wandumzi back at all. He has started using Youtube to teach himself both French and Dutch, not an easy task by any stretch of the imagination. With his language skills improving, Wandumzi is taking to European life like a duck to water, enjoying walking to work, trying the local cuisine and using the time after lunch to walk around the city with some colleagues taking in the city’s sites.
We wish Wandumzi the best of luck during his time in Europe, and we look forward to hearing from him again in the near future.
