Business Connexion Talent Open Day
Belgium Campus “Connex” with Business Connexion
Business Connexion (BCX), one of South Africa’s top ranking ICT companies recently held their Talent Open Day and Belgium Campus was there!
The day focused on Internships, so the natural choice to attend were our third year students who will be doing their internships next year. The day’s events took place at BCX’s Midrand offices with a large number of students attending from various institutions from around the province. To kick-start the day’s events, the students were greeted by a “games room” in the BXC lobby with a Playstation and foosball tables. Students could also enjoy slushies, popcorn, coffee and biscuits.
At 09h30, the students were led into the auditorium where the day’s presentation would be taking place. The presentation was opened by Ms Daniella Nerwich, who then handed over the floor to Ms Grace Dipale the Group HR Manager. Ms. Dipale described the type of person BCX wants, those who make a difference and keep the company on the cutting edge. Pure talent is what has transformed BCX into the largest ICT company in Africa! Ms Dipale was followed by Ms. Pam Gounder, the Senior Manager for Learning and Development. Ms Gounder explained to the students what the BCX Graduate Internship Programme is all about. She also highlighted one incredibly important aspect which most people overlook. She said that even though companies need people with the right technical skills, they also need the right social and interpersonal skills; these are what make a successful BCX employee. This is exactly where Belgium Campus focuses on in all of its programmes.
We then listened to current and previous BCX interns: Ms Anita Mookane, Mr Mo Meleema and Mr Thato Mokwena. They really opened the students’ eyes to the reality of what their internships were about and inspired students to give it their all. This inspiration didn’t stop there as guest speaker Mr Andre Vermeulen took to the stage. Mr. Vermeulen explained BCX’s capabilities in the realm of ICT, what they offer their clients and their infrastructure. After the presentation, the students wrote a test before breaking for lunch and the chance to talk to representatives from different divisions within BCX. Following on from the lunch break was the moment everyone was looking forward to, the prize giving!
The prize giving concluded the day on a high note and prizes were awarded based on the results obtained in the test. Belgium Campus student Riek Basson walked away with the first prize, an Apple iPad. We are very proud of Riek’s achievement and can boast with everybody’s results, as all the other prizes went to Belgium Campus students!
